I'm of two minds when it comes to Sen. Baucus's retirement. On the one hand, this makes the 6th seat currently held by Democrats(the others being IA, MI, NJ, SD and WV) that are potentially vulnerable to a Republican pickup in 2014 so Baucus's decision to retire can't be seen as an entirely wise decision; even with his unpopularity at times, had Baucus run for re-election, this seat would've been a near-certain Democratic hold. On the other hand, should former Gov. Brian Schweitzer decide to run, this could still be a near-certain Democratic hold for the simple fact that, other than former Gov. Marc Racicot, there really isn't a GOP bench out which could produce a viable challenger to the Dems'.

Barring anything disastrous on the Democratic side, this seat should remain in Democratic hands in 2014.

Warren/Sanders 2016

Warren has the star power (like Obama). Sanders has the legislative experience (like Biden). This puts their flaws (Sanders less mainstream) and risks (Warren being stripped of effective power if she were VP). Further, I just don't think America is going back to a white man anytime soon. This shift in demographic power is becoming a symbol of our modern identity. There is going to be a strong push for a female President.

Yeah, I know, a lefty can dream.

I would add my two cents but you stated it perfectly as to why the Manchin-Toomey gun bill compromise failed in the Senate: cowardice on the part of our elected officials, politicians who are so afraid of their own shadow that they don't dare make a move without offending this group or that group...cowardice, simply cowardice.
