Well the House Minority leader & former Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi is stoking speculation of a Hillary Clinton 2016 bid. In an interview with the Chronicle’s Carla Marinucci, Pelosi said about Clinton possibly running:
Why wouldn’t she run? She’s a magnificent secretary of state,” Pelosi said when asked about Clinton’s prospects in 2016. “She’s our shot” that year, Pelosi said.
Hillary Clinton has said that she intends on retiring from politics, but once can’t help but ask if the hunger for the Oval Office is still there after 2008. Clinton would be the overwhelming favorite (by far) if she elected a run in ’16 and I can only assume her entrance would block party up-and-comers Kristen Gillibrand & Martin O’Malley from running.
I think she will consider it at the very least. She’d be crazy not to. I also think she is far more likely to run than Vice President Joe Biden (the two are often talked about as ’16 candidates).
But, Nancy Pelosi shouldn’t discredit Senator Gillibrand of New York either as she has the potential to be a serious candidate for the White House in 2016 and beyond. But besides Gillibrand, the female Democratic bench for President is relatively weak.
Hillary Clinton, though, is the name to watch when discussing 2016 potential. Her move will either open the floodgates or seriously reduce the playing field.
